IRCTC Advance Reservation Period for Booking Increased

The Ministry of Railways has taken decision to increase the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) for accommodation booking in trains from 60 days to 120 days. Now advance reservation period would be 120 days excluding the day of journey. Accordingly, from tomorrow, i.e. with effect from April 01, 2015 the reservation booking in trains from train originating stations will open and remain available for 120 days.

IRCTC Advance Reservation Period is Changed from 60 Days to 120 Days

For instance, as on 01-Apr-2015, for trains leaving on 28-Jul-2015, the reservation can be obtained for journey commencing on all days between 01-04-2015 up to 28-07-2015. However, there will be no change in the case of certain day time Express trains like Gomti Express, Taj Express, Special trains etc, where lower time limits for advance reservation are at present in force. Also, there will also be no change in the case of the limit of 360 days provided for foreign tourists.

Earlier (before 01-Apr-2015) advance reservations for all classes and all trains were made generally up to 60 days in advance exclusive of the day of departure of the train. At intermediate stations where the train arrives on the following day, such reservations can be done more than 60 days in advance of date of journey from the intermediate station. ARP is in relation to the date of journey from train originating station. In case of some Inter-city day trains, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) is less. Also, in the past the advance reservation period was reduced to 60 days from 120 days once again w.e.f. May 1, 2013.

The information regarding enhancement of advance preservation period has been given on the following circular issued from Railway Board,

  1. It has been decided to increase the advance reservation period from 60 days to 120 days (excluding the date of journey) w.e.f. 01.04.2015. CRIS will make necessary changes in the software for this purpose under intimation to all Zonal Railways as well as Board’s office.
  2. There will be no change in case of certain day time Express Trains like Taj Express, Gomti Express, special trains, etc. where lower time limits for advance reservations are at present in force. There will also be no change in case of the limit of 360 days for foreign tourists.
  3. Board desire that the above change may be given wide publicity well in advance of its implementation. Suitable instructions to all concerned may be issued to ensure smooth change-over to the new time limit.

By increasing the ARP from 60 days to 120 days IRCTC may post more profits every year because money from reservations from two more would be added to its wallet. This way cancellation of reserved tickets may also increase a bit which would be additional income of Indian Railways.
